Introduction :Kobari Kadabu is a traditional sweet dumpling loved across North Karnataka, made with simple and wholesome ingredients like wheat flour, fresh coconut, and jaggery. This soft and naturally sweet delicacy is often prepared during festivals, special occasions, or even as a comforting homemade treat. The rich flavor of coconut combined with the earthy sweetness of jaggery makes every bite truly delicious. Steamed to perfection, Kobari Kadabu is not only tasty but also a healthier alternative to deep-fried sweets, bringing together tradition and nutrition in one dish

Ingredients

* 1 cup wheat flour

* 1 cup freshly grated coconut

* ½ cup organic jaggery powder

* 1 tbsp ghee (optional)

* 2 cardamom (powdered)

* Water (for kneading)

* Oil (for frying, if not steaming)

Preparation

Step 1: Prepare the Dough

Take wheat flour in a bowl

Add pinch of Sault water little by little and knead into a soft dough

Cover and rest for 10–15 minutes

Step 2: Prepare Coconut Filling

In a bowl, add grated coconut

Add jaggery powder and cardamom powder

Add 1 tbsp ghee (optional for richness)

Mix well using hands

👉 Tip: You can also grind this mixture slightly in a mixer for a smoother texture

Step 3: Shape the KadabuTake a small portion of doughFlatten it into a small circleAdd coconut filling in the center

Close and seal the edges gently (like a dumpling)

Cooking Methods

Option 1: Steamed Kadabu (Traditional)

Steam in a steamer for 10–12 minutes until cooked

Option 2: Fried Kadabu

Heat oil in a pan

Fry the prepared kadabus on medium flame

Cook until golden brown and crispy

Tips for Perfect Kadabu

Use fresh coconut for best taste

Don’t overfill — it may break while cooking

Fry on medium flame to cook evenly inside

Add ghee for extra flavor (optional but recommended)
