North Karnataka Stuffed 🫑Capsicum Curry | Easy Bharli Capsicum Recipe

Introduction

This is a traditional North Karnataka style stuffed capsicum curry made with simple ingredients. Since I stay in a PG, I prepared this recipe in an easy way without some traditional ingredients—but still, the taste is absolutely delicious!

📝 Ingredients

6 small capsicum (jowari capsicum)

1 small onion

4 tbsp peanuts

2 tbsp coconut powder (or fresh coconut)

Little tamarind

½ tsp cumin seeds

1 tsp mustard seeds

½ tsp turmeric powder

Small piece jaggery (enhances taste)

Few curry leaves

Coriander leaves (for garnish)

2–3 tbsp oil

Salt as per taste

3–4 garlic cloves

½ tsp garam masala

🍳 Step-by-Step Method

Step 1:

Wash the capsicum and make a slit (do not chop completely).

Lightly fry them in a little oil and keep aside to cool.

Step 2:In the same pan, fry onion, peanuts, and coconut until slightly golden. Let it cool.

Step 3:Prepare the masala:

In a mixi jar, add fried onion, peanuts, coconut, jaggery, turmeric powder, garam masala, and salt.

Grind into a smooth paste (add little water if needed).

Step 4:Stuff this masala gently into each capsicum.

Step 5:Heat oil in a pan. Add cumin seeds and mustard seeds.Once they splutter, add garlic and curry leaves.

Step 6:Add the remaining masala and sauté for 2 minutes.

Step 7:Now place the stuffed capsicum in the pan.

Add little water as per your desired consistency.

Cover and cook for 5–10 minutes on low flame.

Step 8:Check salt (since already added in masala, adjust if needed).

Garnish with coriander leaves.

🍽️ Serving Suggestion

Serve hot with jowar roti, chapati, or rice.

very important:In traditional North Karnataka recipes, we usually add “gurellu (niger seeds)” for extra flavor. But since I stay in a PG, I didn’t have it. If you have it, you can definitely add it to the masala.

🌿 Tips

*Do not overcook capsicum—it should remain slightly firm

*Peanut masala gives rich taste, so roast properly

*Jaggery balances the spice perfectly
