Healthy Foxtail Millet Upma (Navane Upma) | Easy Breakfast Recipe
✨ Ingredients
* 250 grams foxtail millet (navane)
* 2–3 tsp oil
* 1 tsp mustard seeds
* 1 tsp cumin seeds
* 1 tsp urad dal
* 1 tsp chana dal
* 2 tbsp peanuts
* 1 onion (chopped)
* 1 tomato (chopped)
* 1 small potato (chopped)
* 1 small cucumber (chopped)
* (if available) carrot and beans
* Curry leaves
* Salt as per taste
* Coriander leaves (for garnish)
* Fresh coconut (for garnish)
* 600 ml water
🍳 Preparation Method (Pressure Cooker)
1.Wash the foxtail millet well. (Soaking for 15 minutes is optional—I did not soak.)
2.Heat a pan, add a little oil, and dry roast the millet for 5 minutes on low flame. Keep aside.
3.In a pressure cooker, heat oil.
4.Add mustard seeds, cumin seeds, curry leaves, urad dal, chana dal, and peanuts. Fry until golden brown.
5.Add chopped onion and sauté until soft.
6.Add tomato and cook for a minute.
7.Add all chopped vegetables (potato, cucumber, and optional veggies). Mix well.
8.Add salt and roasted millet. Mix everything nicely.
9.Pour 600 ml water (since the millet is not soaked).
10.Close the lid and cook for 4 whistles.
Let the pressure release naturally.
🥥 Garnish
Top with fresh coriander leaves and grated coconut before serving.
💡 Tips
Roasting gives a nice aroma and prevents stickiness.
You can skip cucumber if you prefer.
Adjust water slightly if you soak the millet.
Simple, healthy, and filling—this navane upma is perfect for a nutritious breakfast or light meal!🫶
